Oh Penn station, NY it is..already? Time just flies...I just have another one hour to enjoy one of the most beautiful journey that I am experiencing today... the journey which I had almost planned to cancel 3 hours back.. To start with, I am really glad that I had booked my tickets giving the least concern to the weather forecast that clearly stated that there would be heavy snowfall today.... which was obviously not much appreciated by my parents :) ... Somehow by the grace of a well wisher and a patient friend of course I was able to open my eyes at 6:40 am after missing 3 calls. Something in the back of my mind that made me get up early.... the freaking thought that I haven't seen my passport since many days..and here in the states that was the only accepted ID proof i possessed. These are the times where you really curse yourself for not taking efforts of obtaining a state driving license.
Nevertheless, my only hope was my roommate ,who would have found it somewhere and kept it safely. Pondering upon the thoughts of working out options, I got ready somehow. This was when the thought of canceling my trip came into mu mind along with the some other thoughts such has how much fun would be made out of me by my friends for such a folly, and then it would be my parents wondering how would I return to India soon..in case I have really lost my passport. Keeping my cool, I knocked on her door... man she must be really cursing me for waking her up that early on a cold and cosy Saturday.
To my relief, she had kept it in a safe place. She did demand for a chocolate, had she asked for the stars or the moon I would have got her that too...
I quickly packed up the remaining stuff and looked out the window. Lovely was the view and serene was the environment. There was just a little problem... 4 inches of snow on the roads :) . It was constantly snowing and I was wondering if I would be able to make it to the train station. The thought of canceling the trip stuck me for the second time. But this time it was a no guilt and weak feeling. I had managed to get myself and my stuff ready 15 minutes ahead of the scheduled time to leave my apartment. A very noble thought having a hot tea before stepping out in the chilly weather creeped into my mind. But things were not so smooth for me this morning, there was no more milk left in our fridge.
To my disappointment, was I supposed to go out in such a cold and freezing weather even without having a cup of tea. Didn't I deserve just one cup of tea. Then my dear God clicked an Idea in my mind of disturbing my other friend, the second victim of the day. I called up my friend, half sleepy he picked my phone and I quickly demanded a cup of tea, giving him the deadline of 10 minutes. Today, I had to praise him to have it done for me so quickly. The small cup of tea definitely meant a big deal to me. Lord save these tea lovers! Anyways, I thanked him for being so kind to me..god bless the considerate soul :). Coming back to my concerns of reaching the train station, meanwhile I had called for a cab which normally would take at least 15 minutes to arrive and considering the snow I was expecting 20. By the time I was busy enjoying the tea, the cab arrived within 5 minutes gave me a call and left in another 5 minutes, even without giving me the minimum information that he was not ready to wait for more than 5 minutes. I rushed downstairs to find out that he was already gone.
Huh!! The good thing here was that at least I got rid of the impression of being the only impatient one amongst the lot. I called the cabbie again and he was not ready to return. So, I had to call the yellow cab company back again, just to hear their standard answer 5 - 20 minutes. Now this was the third time when the feeling of canceling the trip came in mind.. this time a stronger and not very much guilt free.. and I thought to myself.. While I was just browsing the cancelation policy on my phone.. I noticed a yellow thing showing up amidst the translucent fog.. to my relief it was the cab! The cabbie rushed me to the station in time and the journey was awesomely delightful with flakes of snow, white and weightless traversing down the earth in beautiful patterns softly kissing the ground in delicacy. And here I am just smiling to myself.. Glad I took the train!
